01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Perched on the 2nd floor up a flight of stairs, Sakanatori is a dependable seafood izakaya for days when a serious fish craving strikes. Come evening, the natural place to start is the signature sashimi platter, carved into thick, hearty slices. Ordering sake brings an extra touch of hospitality, as you can pick your own ochoko sake cup from a colourful selection before settling into a leisurely pour.

The broader menu spans plenty of creative drinking fare. Fried potatoes tossed with anchovy butter, rich dashimaki tamago, and the playful "unrolled" torotaku hand roll keep chopsticks moving. Tables can quickly fill up with a proper seafood feast, from charred tuna collar roasted until fragrant to overflowing kobore sushi and rich otoro nigiri for the final stretch.

At midday, the kitchen draws crowds with substantial teishoku lunches. The flagship Sakanatori Teishoku brings together four kinds of sashimi alongside tempura, simmered fish with daikon radish, and small side dishes on one tray. Other lunchtime staples include the customizable Uosen set—pairing simmered flounder or mackerel in miso with your choice of a side like fried horse mackerel or sashimi—as well as the lavishly topped Kaisen Ogi Don bowl, ensuring quality fish at midday without compromise.

The interior accommodates solitary diners comfortably at the counter, alongside standard table seating, booths, and private rooms that suit drinks with friends or colleagues. Because dinner service tends to get lively and crowded, booking a table ahead of time is well worth the effort.
